London: Scientists say that exercising only on the weekend is enough to reduce the risk of over 200 health issues, including heart disease, kidney problems, and obesity.
A study conducted on nearly 90,000 people in the UK (who used to do all their exercises on weekends, known as "weekend warriors") revealed that their health benefits were the same as those who exercised throughout the week.
The research, published in the journal Circulation, explained that the overall amount of exercise (the recommended 150 minutes per week) provides more benefits than performing physical activities in a specific pattern.
Dr. Sean Khurshid, a faculty member at Massachusetts General Hospital in the US, stated that physical activity is known to affect the risk of several diseases.
He further mentioned that this study made it clear that "weekend warrior" activity not only reduces the risk of heart diseases (as shown in previous studies) but also helps in dealing with various conditions, including chronic kidney disease and mood disorders.
